Cemetery Restoration of 2009

In 2009, the first major attempt to restore the pioneer cemetery began since 1973.

Those who visited the site prior to the restoration will remember that the cemetery was in terrible shape, and as you can see in these first two photos.

The cemetery was not being maintained, and there were many tombstones which were falling over, broken, or completely collapsed.  Moss had grown over many of the stones making it very difficult to identify the writing as well.

As we would later discover with the restoration, many stones had actually sunken into the ground!

As you will see in the site, the restoration of 2009 was an enormous success and restoration efforts continued through late 2010.  We are grateful to the efforts of the Volunteers, Donors, and the Restoration Committee who put a lot of time and effort into the restoration and plans for the ongoing maintenance of the cemetery.
