THE CHARLOTTETOWN HERALD, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 1887 DEATH: MCVARISH-CANTWELL - At Big Bush, Dec 24th, Catherine McVarish, wife of Daniel Cantwell, aged 36 years, and on the 25th, her father, Donald McVarish, aged 96. May she rest in peace.

(sic) Gillis, aged 20 years, leaving a father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, besides a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn their loss. May her soul rest in peace. The following appears on a headstone in the new cemetery:

DEATH: GILLIS - At Clear Spring, Lot 44, on the 9th inst., after a lingering illness, Caius Gillis, in the 76th year of his age. Deceased did business at Cardigan, for a number of years. He was of a very kind and genial disposition, and his death is regretted by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
THE CHARLOTTETOWN HERALD, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1883 DEATH: GILLIS - At Hay River, on the 14th ult., Isabella Gillis, aged 88 years. The deceased was the niece of the late beloved Bishop McEachren, and was an especial favorite of the Reverend prelate while he lived. She was a woman of marked intelligence, a cogent reasoner, and of rare conversational powers, endowed with a religious ardor characteristic of her venerable Uncle. Her remains were interred in St. Margaret's cemetery, followed by numerous sorrowing friends, and there laid beside her husband, where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest.
