MEMORIAL BOOK - "Honouring our Ancestors - Then and Now"

Cemetery BookDuring the summer of 2010, at the Memorial Celebration, we released our commemorative book on the history of the cemetery.  This book will be of interest to anyone who can trace their ancestry to the area, and for those interested in the history of the area.  The book is priced at $20, plus applicable shipping costs (postage via Canada Post, and envelope - no additional handling costs).  Continue reading for a detailed description of the book:

Silent sentinels stand guard over a land once bustling with people and activity. The walls and tombstones of the St. Margaret of Scotland Pioneer Cemetery are the only remaining symbols of a time when people filled the region and where tidy farms stood shoulder to shoulder all along the north side.  In stark contrast to that time many of the once productive farms have disappeared beneath reforestation and many of the homes and farm buildings have vanished- no longer needed in a now much depopulated region. Through the efforts of their decedents this sacred burial ground once again rings with activity, the grounds, once overgrown now show signs of rejuvenation and restoration. From these efforts came the idea for a book, one that would speak about who these people were... what they stood for, and in turn, remind us where we have come from.

The book, HONOURING OUR ANCESTORS, documents some of the history of the St. Margaret of Scotland Parish and her people. This book identifies those buried in the cemetery and retells some of their local history. As is to be expected the more recent history is easier to tell and as a result we have included much from the last century. In this brief look at the past we have captured stories in danger of being forgotten. No book can ever hope to retell everything about a community...  especially one over 238 years in the making...  so this book is a beginning not an end.

It is our hope that those we have strived to remember would be pleased with our efforts. We, on our part, are privileged to be part of honouring our ancestors
